You’ll remember that in 2009 Panania RSL Soccer Club purchased new playing strip for nearly all teams in the club. This left us with a bit of a problem. What to do with the old playing jerseys ??

Most of them were still quite useable. We couldn’t just throw them away.

The Committee came up with the idea of donating them to schools in Tanzania Africa and so arrangements were made that the jerseys would be donated to schools and sporting clubs through a friend we have in Tanzania.

More than 150 jerseys were sent from Under 6 size to Over 35s. The cost of sending the jerseys by sea-mail from Panania to Tanzania was more than $300, and that money was generously donated by Daryl Melham, Federal Member for Banks and Alan Ashton , NSW State Member for East Hills.

After more than 12 months the jerseys finally arrived and are now being worn by soccer teams and netball teams in various parts of Tanzania.

Next time you’re in Tanzania and you see a team playing in Panania colours you’ll know why.
