10-2B ( 2 ) Greenacre Eagles ( 2 )
The day started in fine form with the team rostered for field setup and we were outnumbered by the 7 diamonds and the committee members. Thanks to Brian Walker in particular who has nothing to do with our team but decided to come down on the day. And thanks to Tony for his solitary attendance. It was just through hard work that the fields were setup on time to allow the game to start. The game today started at a good pace, unfortunately for us the pace was all Greenacre. We continued to not go to the ball and watch them run through and score two relatively easy goals. Daniel was the unfortunate one in goals when they were scored and I rate Daniel a pretty good little keeper but its the other 10 on the park who have to stop them first so bad luck Daniel. Half time allowed me to talk to the team and find out where they were. Well the good news is we found them in the second half. Some good leadup work by JJ poked a ball through for Brandon to run onto and calmly slot one past the keeper which gave us a little glimmer of hope. Then a little individual brilliance by Brandon who again ran half a field and took on two defenders before he got to the goalie and again slotted one past him. You could not have had two more contrasting halves to the match today but Im glad we got our first points for the year. Now on another note, over the weekend I heard various comments regarding game times, positions, and I have to say Im a little perplexed that this is happening to such a good team. We had good wins last year culminating in the premiership but this year is never going to be easy going up a division and getting new players. If you have any grievances as parents of the players regarding anything with the team come and see me dont let things fester on the sideline. Anyway to the good things, encouragement award to JJ for doing what was asked of him and the man of the match to Brandon for his efforts in getting us on the scoreboard.
