14-1 Ladies ( 8 ) Padstow United ( 0 )
After a two week layoff between games due to Easter and the school holidays the girls could have been excused for being a little rusty. It only took our girls about three minutes to find their rhythm and the passing game which was so impressive in the first round was on show again. Once again we chose our passing options sensibly; we fought hard for the ball and worked hard to be first to the ball, and this resulted in a total dominance of field position. Against an obviously weaker opponent we stuck to our own game plan and maintained our intensity for the duration of the game. The only negative to come out of the game was the lack of talk out on the field. However, some of our play is so instinctive that passes are made without calls being made and bodies are almost always there. Our starting halves Coop, GG, Fentz & Sav used the ball superbly, and promoted the ball forward for Fish & Jimmy to pressure with some well timed shots aimed straight at the keeper. Eventually our scoring account was opened by Jimmy early in the first half with a great strike that nearly put a hole in the net. Not to be outdone, Raff kept herself in the thick of the action and was rewarded for some great support play with her first goal of the season. We lost the ever reliable Bowie early in the half with an infected toe. Belly moved up into sweeper to cover the loss and injected herself into the attack immediately and scored with a great solo effort and a powerful kick from outside the box that whizzed past the goalie before she knew what had happened. Not long after, Sav nailed her first goal of the season with a cracker of a shot. Groover, Goddess, Minnie & Shorty held tough at the back ensuring that for the third straight 30minute period we have played, Nico was not required to touch the ball. Leading 4-0 at halftime we decided to release Nico from goals and set her loose on the field. She worked hard in defense fighting hard for the ball and turned defense into attack with some great kicking and chasing. Coop worked tirelessly in the centre of the park and was unlucky to be denied a goal or two with some thunderous kicks either rebounding off the posts or ricocheting off the legs of the United backs. Shorty was a powerhouse at the back making some crucial saves, and Minnie looked right at home at centre back making some big plays. Groovers move up to the midfield got her in the action and she was another who was unlucky not to score. Belly was everywhere and once again ran herself to a standstill. GG combined well with Fish & Jimmy deep in United's half and scored our 5th for the day. A long run down the sideline and a well timed shot saw her bag herself a double. It was ironic that we move Nico out of goals due to lack of action and her replacement Bowie gets to make three crucial saves in goal. After some great lead up work from Goddess and Sav the ball was worked forward where Fish sent a great pass across to Raff who smashed the ball that hard that it hit the top bar deflected down into the back of the keepers head sending her crashing to the ground and the ball flying into the back of the net for our 7th goal. Just as she started our scoring for the day Jimmy finished it with another great strike, and an 8-0 scoreline. Once again it was a powerhouse display of teamwork which left our opponents scratching their heads and wondering what they can do to combat our attack. After two very comprehensive wins we hope we will be challenged next week when we meet Strikers. Thanks once again to our great troupe of supporters for cheering the girls on.
