9-3 ( 2 ) Bankstown Spears ( 6 )
Sunday saw the second game of the double header. With three of our players unable to backup, we called on the 8 Diamonds for help. We travelled over to Neville park Bass Hill to play a Spears side that I believe should be in a higher division. The game was only five minutes old when a great thru ball by Mitchell Driver, found James Hurley in space. James had plenty of work to do before slamming the ball into the back of the goal for us to lead 1-0. The spears then got on a roll, and scored two quick goals to lead 2-1. Our goal keeper Lochlan Robertson was given plenty of work to do and did a fantastic job stopping 3 or 4 shots at goal. Next it was our turn to attack again, with a raid down the left touch line by Adam Rae who passed up field to our ever ready 8 Diamonds recruit George Marvidis. George beat one defender to score and level the score at 2-2. Great games were being played by Lachlan Cole, Ben Mann, Lachlan Black and Harry Fuelling who were given plenty to do by the spears strikers. Up front our other recruit Samuel Smith was combining well with George Mavridis and our strikers James Hurley and Mitchell Driver. Brandon Peters and Rachel Taylor, both recovering from illness played well in the halves. The spears scored two more goals to finish 4-2 at half-time. The second half was much the same as the first with our team stopping many spears scoring attempts, with new goal keeper, Lachlan Cole doing everything possible to keep us in the game. Unfortunately 2 more goals were scored, which pushed the score out to 6-2 in favour of the spears. A great effort kids and thanks for never giving up - Well done! Special thank you to Samuel Smith and George Mavridis who were outstanding playing above their age group. Many thanks to all the parents for getting their kids to the games on time and to club president Glenn Ruffy Rufford who organised the 8 Diamond replacements at short notice.
