8 Emeralds ( 3 ) East Bankstown ( 2 )
The season is rapidly drawing to a close but the desire of this team to keep performning at the highest level is unwavering. Super coaches Hughes and Beck manage to keep the fire burning at inferno level in this champion team. Looking over the pre-game drills with smug satisfaction, the coaches knew the boys knew what they had to do to pull off another win. The Burras were going to be tough opposition and everyone was looking forward to another highly skilled game. After a long absence due to extremely thin skin, Terry took the whistle and had us underway. A gigantic head clash early on had Ethan seeing stars. This only spurred our boys on and Liam scored another brilliant goal. The team started to gel together well. Ante provided another goal with some silky touches in the lead up that had the Burras mesmerised. Two nil at half time but anyones game. The Burras were certainly putting up a good fight and their skill levels were exceptional. We knew that if we played to our potential we should come away with a win. The backs were combining well with the halves, staving off opposition raids and providing great ball to the midfield and strikers. Ryan, Zach, Ethan and Jack were playing out of their skins. Jaiden and Jake were also on fire. They provided some excellent passes to Ziad, Liam and Ante up front and we were unlucky not to be 3 or 4 more goals up at half time. The Burras clawed one back in the second half and it was set up for a tense finish. An attacking move from a corner set Jack up well and he made no mistake with his chance absolutely smoking it past the keeper. 3-2 win and it was tense. It was good to Terry excited to be ref again. Ive never heard the whistle being blown so often in anunder 8 game. Tommy Butler was a deserved player of the match. Great game!
