9-3 ( 2 ) Padstow United ( 2 )
Saturday saw us play Padstow United at Kelso, a match we won in the first round. Our team, all fired up and ready to go out winners for the last game of the season, played the game with great enthusiasm and commitment. The game was only minutes old when a big kick by Rachael Taylor found its way to Rocket Rae, who darted through the defence, to go on and slam the ball into the back of the net. Padstow knew they were in for a tough game and their forwards responded with a few darting runs of their own, only to be cut-off by our talented backs Harry Fuelling, Lochlan Robertson and Lachlan Cole. Mitch Driver, searching for his first goal of the season was having a great game and on one occasion ran with the ball from deep in our own half, leaving defenders in his wake, only to narrowly miss with his shot at goal. Ben Mann, Brandon Peters and Bradley Sawyer playing in the midfield, were all playing well, with Bradley sticking to his opponent like glue. Towards the end of the first half, Padstow scored a well constructed goal, to level the scores at 1 - 1. The second half was much like the first, with us dominating at the front with exceptional passing between our strikers Benjamin Hoppitt and Mitch Driver. James Hurley was once again everywhere in attack and the next minute, he was back defending our goal. Ben Mann saved his best game for last and was getting involved at every chance. Ethan Macky was also doing some good things with the ball, having now been replaced in goals by Lochlan Robertson. It was our nippy rocket Adam, who broke the deadlock when he combined with Benjamin, and slipped past their defenders to once again find the back of the net. We lead 2-1 into the final 10 minutes. Padstow seemed to lift at this stage, which culminated in a goal which levelled the scores at 2 - 2. Lochlan Robertson made 2 good saves in the goals, but it was Lachlan Cole who through his body, not once, but twice at the ball to deny the fast finishing Padstow the goal that would have given them a victory. In the end we settled for a well earned 2 all draw. Congratulations kids on a great game and a very enjoyable season.
