Lets start the result - Yeah we won, we won...and the crowd goes wild!!!!! There's nothing like the first win of the season, puts a spring back in the step and a smile on the faces of the players (and the coach and manager). Now back to the start, in what can only be described as a glorious day for soccer there we were with 15 players all arrived well before kick off. After an enthusiastic warmup we were ready to play. The ladies started strongly and were keen and enthusatic and maintained strong pressure by continually being first to the ball. Our first goal came after Mel Logozzo took the field at the fifteenth minute and promptly scored. We keep them mostly down their end of the field and had a zillion more shots at goal- none of which found the back of the net- although a couple found the post. One of our players were ordered to leave the field for a jewellery violation even though two workers players also had taped jewellery. Half time and yeah for the oranges. A polite! protest to the referee at half time saw our banished player allowed to take the field in the second half- apparently flesh coloured tape makes some difference- go figure!!!! We started just as strongly in the second half but knew we had a game on our hands as the Workers started strongly as well. We were able to continue to apply pressure and following half a dozen great passes Brooke Mason was able to slot one in the back of the net. Melissa Jones and Sharon Farrell also had some great shots that were only millimetres off going in. Finally it would be wrong of me not to mention some other players who were outstanding- Nic Zibens who played a great captains game, Robyn Mack and Bec Blackburn who just held the wings so well. Its amazing the difference the play on the field is the week after the vast majority of players come to training eh? Its on again next week and we can't wait, see you at training.
